Distractions and Productivity

I don’t know about you, but I find myself constantly struggling with distractions. With the rise of mobile devices there is never a time in the day when we can’t be consuming media. Whatever happened to being bored? I find I have my best ideas when my mind is free to wander, and I’m not even giving myself a chance.

I start with the best of intentions, but before I know it I’m back on Youtube, or reading articles on Reeder; let alone all the TV I need to catch up on using iPlayer. I think this is an issue that’s affecting more and more people in this new connected age.

I think a big part of it is even while sitting in front of laptop there are too many possibilities starting at me. I can see the twitter icon lit up, I can see the messenger icon blinking. I think there is a lot we can do to be proactive about this though. It’s all about knowing your weaknesses, and then figuring out ways that really work for you.

Recently I’ve been looking at methods to help me to focus to reduce the distractions preventing me from working as efficiently as possible.

Job Hunting Tips From The Unemployed

I should probably preface this by stating I’m a recent graduate and I’m currently unemployed; thus probably not the most knowledge person on this subject. However, I am currently in the process of looking for a (great) job at a (kick-ass) start up, so I’ve spent a fair amount of time thinking about the best tactics on securing that dream job.

I’ll update this at a later point so you can find out whether I’m successful in my job hunt, and if you should totally disregard these points or not.
